HUSBAND-AND-WIFE jangle pop duo Shapes Like People have released a 30-second video teaser for their upcoming single ‘Supergirl’, out on 31 October. In a press release, the band’s songwriter and producer Carl Mann said,

“Supergirl’ is a cheeky adaptation of the 1969 song ‘Superman’ by The Clique. Famously covered by R.E.M. as a hidden track on Life’s Rich Pageant, it’s the first single to be taken from the upcoming Shapes Like People album Under the Rainbow due for release in April 2026.

“This track came about over a Friday night pint. Kat [Kat Mann, vocalist] is working on VFX for the upcoming Supergirl movie, and as a bit of a joke Carl suggested covering Superman… with a twist! The following morning the idea was taking shape as Carl put his own spin on the arrangement. ‘Supergirl’ kicks off a string of four single releases, in the lead up to what promises to be a cracking album in April 2026.”

Shapes Like People released their debut album Ticking Haze in March of this year. You can read our review of the album here, and our interview with the duo here.
