Bruce Springsteen announces a new box set, The Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition

12 September, 2025

Bruce Springsteen has announced a new box set, The Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition, to be released on 17 October. In addition to a 2025 remaster of the original album, the set will comprise of solo outtakes from the period, a newly shot performance film of Nebraska in its entirety, and The E Street Band’s Electric Nebraska sessions. Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition will be available as a 4-LP set (plus Blu-Ray) and 4-CD set (plus Blu-Ray).

'I’ve written a lot of other narrative records,’ Springsteen said of the new release, ‘but there's just something about that batch of songs on Nebraska that holds some sort of magic.’

A previously-unreleased version of the song ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ from the Electric Nebraska sessions is currently available on streaming platforms. Recorded in April 1982, Springsteen is backed by Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent. ‘It was kinda like punk rockabilly,’ Springsteen said. ‘We were trying to bring Nebraska into the electric world.’

Having been recorded on a four-track machine in a bedroom in New Jersey, Nebraska was originally released in 1982 on Columbia Records. It reached number 3 in the Billboard 200 chart in the US and the official album chart in the UK.
